Plea from the Court Jester

The Court Jester and all American prisoners simply ask what Jesus asked – for others to do to them what they would have done to themselves. To be treated as if they were created in the image of God, just as the unimprisoned are. To be remembered for the humanity they share in common with their captors, as well as all Americans. The best possible response any American prisoner could ever hope for, to whatever challenging and overwhelming situations they are facing, would be for someone – anyone – to take the unlikely, but empathetic position toward them represented in the compassionate statement, “There, but for the grace of God, go I.” If these attitudes are adopted, and these sentiments stir the hearts of Americans to take action, there would be no stopping the constructive change and realistic reformation that could transform the entire American prison system.

About the Court Jester

As a complete novice to the blogosphere, allow me to introduce myself. For my blog identities, I have chosen two pseudonyms: (1) The Court Jester; (2) The Time-barred Bard behind Bars. As court jester, I will closely examine the American criminal justice system, and in particular, the legal system of the Commonwealth of Virginia, my former home state. A major focus of this blog will be to provide analysis of the criminal court cases of defendants and convicted appellants.  Continue Reading
